The region has forged a strong reputation in the arts. The gold rush days set the pace and inspired a wave of refined artistic pursuits.... instrument makers, musicians, craftspeople and artists have shaped the area's creative identity.

Many draw on the region's light, landscapes, air, history and quality of life to create works reflective of their surrounds.

 

The region is home to a number of significant artistic events such as the Castlemaine State Festival, Maldon Folk Festival and Fryerstown Antique Fair. Be sure to check the Events Calendar to time your visit and take in a memorable event.

Fossick for treasures in densely stocked stores, listen to jazz over a glass of wine, stroll through the monthly Artists Market at the Theatre Royal or wander the stunning galleries dotted across our towns - you might very well discover an up and coming artist to add to your collection!

 

 

Getting to our Region

 

Easily located in Central Victoria, the region is less than 90 minutes north west of Melbourne and conveniently accessed by road and rail.

Stunning villages and towns are located close by, making the region an ideal base from which to explore Central Victoria.
